    CARBON DIOXIDE CYLINDER

Carbon dioxide cylinders are purpose designed seamless steel storage vessels manufactured to 84/525/EW6, and are independently tested.
The height shown in table 1 is from the floor to the valve outlet connection. Cylinders are filled with maximum of 0.667 kg of CO2 per litre, and fitted with an internal syphon tube to ensure discharge of liquid agent only. Cylinders are marked with the gross weight and the net charge weight.

    MANUAL/ELECTRIC ACTUATOR

This actuator can either be operated manually or electrically when fitted with a protractor (Port No.1557). The manual/electrical actuator is fitted to the CO2 cylinder valve assembly as part of a single cylinder system configuration, when a pilot cylinder is not used.

    MANUAL ACTUATOR

The manual actuator is fitted either to the top of the pilot valve assembly, or to the top of an electrical actuator (if fitted), and incorporates a strike knob which is struck to actuate the pilot valve. To prevent accidental actuation, the shaft of the strike knob is fitted with a safety knob is fitted with a safety pin which must be with drawn before operation.

    REMOVABLE ELECTRICAL ACTUATOR

A removable solenoid actuator may be fitted to the top of the pilot cylinder valve assembly to facilitate electrical actuation. The actuator is fitted with a knurled union nut connection which enables the unit to be oriented as required for electrical cable connection. Testing may be achieved by removing the actuator, applying a 24V dc signal, and observing the physical movement of the actuator pin to the latched energised position. Once actuated, the solenoid required manual reset before reconnecting to the valve.

    NITORGEN PILOT CYLINDER

Remote actuation of the cylinder valve may be achieved with the pilot cylinder and valve assembly. The unit comprises of a three litre cylinder and valve assembly, low pressure switch, burst disc and pressure gauge with manual or electrical actuation.
When discharged a pneumatic signal is pressure transmitted to the container valve via ?” pipe or copper tubing (with flare or equivalent high-pressure fittings).
The Maximum recommended pipework distance is 30m from the remote unit to the cylinder location.

    PRESSURE SWITCH

The pressure switch is activated by pressure in the manifold or distribution pipework and provides positive indication of system operation. It incorporates DPCO contacts, rated 20A @ 125/250V ac. Contacts are latching, requiring a reset button to be manually operated after discharge. The Pressure switch has a test facility.

    DISCHARGE NOZZLES

Discharge nozzles distribute the gas throughout the risk area, and the available in sizes from 10mm to 50mm. Different configurations of orifice ports are available to suit various types of hazard, enabling a flexible approach to the protection of most risks. Port sizes are determined in accordance with pressure and flow characteristics via a computer program, and selected specifically for each application. The orifice size is marked on each nozzle and must be installed to comply with the positions shown on the project drawings to ensure the correct distribution.
Nozzles are available with 2 or 4 ports which equates to 180๐ or 360๐ area coverage. For arduous environments nozzles can be fitted with a cap to prevent the ingress of foreign matter. The cap is designed to blow off as the system discharges.

    TYPICAL MANIFOLD SYSTEM

Figure indicates a typical four cylinder system complete with solenoid operate pilot cylinder, manual/pneumatic actuator, flexible discharge hoses, manifold, distribution pipework, nozzle and discharge pressure switch
